Repair List

Here are the repairs left to do, or projects still on the list as of the time I finally got the car back on the road after rebuilding the transmission in the winter/spring of 2012.

Some of these are new things that have cropped up, or are simply left-overs from the restoration that I never got around to finishing or fixing.

* Replace left rear axle oil seal and speedi-sleeve - both leaking now!  ordered speedi-sleeves
* Send out tach and speedo for a good repair - SENT OUT
* Figure out why cigar lighter fuse keeps blowing and fix
* Figure out why windshield wipers only wipe 1/2 way across - was all just rebuilt so something is wrong
* Replace bearings in steering column u-joint (on hand)
* Make new carb synchronizing vacuum ports/insulators - in progress
* Install mesh speaker grille in dash
* Fix padding over dash where I messed up the ends the last time
* Fix captive nut for soft top on passenger side
* Re-do body work and paint on driver's side front fender
* Install rear wheel forward splash guards
* Install new venturi ports for vacuum sync gauges
* Fit and adjust the aluminum side curtains and clean them up

DONE....Fix heater control valve where it leaks onto the distributor - post pending
DONE....Install radiator coolant overflow bottle (up next to heater box) - post pending
DONE....Insulate tranny tunnel further back to prevent my calf from heating up
DONE....Replace front shocks (ordered now from WorldWide)

  1. Jim,
I found your blog this morning and its terrific. I'm working on my 1961 MGA this morning. Its a car I recently bought. It hasn't been kept up much over the past decade or more so I doing catch up work. I opened up the carbs and found the bowls were very dirty and had amber brown gasoline so old I'm surprised it has been running. I now understand when it would only start with starting fluid. Thanks for starting your blog, I will return to it, especially the piece about carburetor work. Charlie Adams, Fairfax Station VA
